In an effort to raise awareness of PollinERA’s mission and objectives, this summer, the project attended three major events across Europe and Asia.
On behalf of the project’s communication and dissemination partner, Pensoft Publishers, PollinERA distributed various project materials, including the PollinERA two-pager, stickers, flyers with study species illustrations, bookmarks, and study species stickers. 27th International Congress of Entomology (ICE2024)
Firstly, between 25 and 30 August 2024, PollinERA participated in the 27th International Congress of Entomology (ICE2024), held at the Kyoto International Conference Center, Japan. The congress, themed ‘New Discoveries through Consilience’, gathered around 4,000 entomological experts, researchers and key stakeholders from more than 80 countries. ICE2024 was co-hosted by the Science Council of Japan and was attended by their Imperial Highnesses Crown Prince and Crown Princess Akishino, and government officials from Kyoto. The next International Congress of Entomology is set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2028, continuing the dialogue about the advancements in the field of entomology and pollinator health.

53rd Annual Conference of the German Ecological Society (GfÖ24)
Between 9 and 13 September 2024, PollinERA attended the 53rd Annual Conference of the German Ecological Society (GfÖ24) in Freising, Bavaria. The conference addresses the issues of global land-use change and unsustainable land management practices that are dominant drivers of contemporary biodiversity and ecosystem function loss. Therefore, GfÖ24 aimed to present, discuss and advance ecological knowledge contributing to innovative land use and management strategies.

9th Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS Europe 2024)
The last stop of PollinERA’s conference trip was the 9th Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS Europe), held between 10 and 14 September 2024 in Balatonvilágos, Hungary. More than 40 young conservationists, students and early career researchers from 13 countries across Europe and beyond presented their results, exchanged ideas and met brilliant experts in conservation biology.

Synergy building
PollinERA participated in the events together with the ongoing sister projects Safeguard, WildPosh and ANTENNA, as well as PoshBee and B-GOOD projects, which ended last year. Moreover, during the events, two upcoming EU-funded pollinator projects were presented.
Starting in 2025, VALOR is a new EU-funded project that brings together interdisciplinary researchers, NGOs and businesses to co-develop and demonstrate a systems-based approach to understanding, measuring and responding to changes in the benefits that pollinators provide to society and the economy.
Threats to pollinators and pollination services that support agriculture and benefit people are a worldwide problem. AGRI4POL’s ambition is to assist the transition of agriculture from being a pressure on pollinators to becoming a positive force for managing and restoring pollinator biodiversity, crop pollination services and co-benefits to ecosystems and people.
