New approach to environmental risk assessment: The PollinERA project video

PollinERA has published a new introductory video, now available on PollinERA's YouTube channel and website.

The short film explains how insect pollinators are vital for both wild ecosystems and agricultural production, yet their populations are declining alarmingly. As highlighted in the video, one of the main drivers of this decline is plant protection products, known as pesticides. Current risk assessments focus on honey bees, without taking into account the ecological and biological diversity of other insect pollinators such as wild bees, butterflies, moths and hoverflies.

The PollinERA introductory video explains how the project's four core objectives lead to the implementation of the One System Framework for risk assessment and policy evaluation. The video also features several project partners: Johan Axelman (Swedish Chemicals Agency), Maj Rundlöf (Lund University), Anna Lombardo (Mario Negri Institute), and the project coordinator, Christopher John Topping (Aarhus University).

Science communication tools like this video are essential for raising awareness and reaching a wider audience to build understanding of the challenges facing pollinators.
