PollinERA research presented at the international interdisciplinary conference in Poland

On 16 September 2025, PollinERA research was presented at the international interdisciplinary conference Multifunctional Farming: Landscape, People, Food, and Ecology in Rzeszów, Poland. The conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as to foster connections and cooperation between those cultivating and using the resources of agricultural landscapes. The conference aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and practice.

The dissemination activity was carried out by Agnieszka Bednarska from the Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (INC-PAS), with the Jagiellonian University (JU) also contributing to the work presented. During the conference, PhD researcher Dominika Twaróg presented a poster titled Pesticide Residues in Pollen Collected by Osmia bicornis in Landscapes Dominated by Different Cropping Systems: Apple Orchards and Rapeseed Fields. The results shown were obtained within Work Package 1 (WP1) Pollinator exposure and sensitivity and Work Package 4 (WP4) Monitoring and risk indicators of PollinERA. Twelve Osmia bicornis nests were studied and for each nest Pesticide Risk Index (PRI) was calculated to capture the combined hazard and exposure level to multiple substances in different cropping systems. Across the samples, thirty-seven pesticides were detected in total, including fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, with four of these substances currently banned in the European Union. The study showed that nests located near apple orchards had a much higher Pesticide Risk Index compared to nests located near oilseed rape fields.
